This is one of the reasons why since early on I have my policies set that there is “no discount given for sick days, arriving late, etc.” Whether or not I am given notice that day or not (and sometimes they don’t even call and I have to) it can affect the ratio, work schedule and all of the other things you mentioned. All of which cannot easily be changed on a moments notices. So no discount come, don’t come. They are paying for the spot not whether or not they use the spot.
