The other day we decided to take the day off and do some sight-seeing. The Simcoe County Museum is one of our perennial favourites!
Here’s the run down:
Description: The Simcoe County Museum offers a wide variety of events, exhibits and programs for all ages throughout the year. Discover Simcoe County’s history through hands on exploration, and interactive displays. With several indoor exhibits, as well as many outdoor displays including heritage buildings and vintage landmovers and other vehicles, there is lots to explore in any weather.
Hours: Monday to Saturday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Prices: Adult – $6, Senior/Student – $5, Child – $4, Preschoolers – Free
We had a great time exploring the indoor and outdoor exhibits, and we even got a sneak peek at a brand new section that has yet to be unveiled (thanks to a great staff member who noticed my kids’ curiousity!).
The Simcoe County Museum is perfect for any age. There are lots of hands-on activities that would occupy toddlers on up, and it’s visual enough that a baby would have lots to look at too. It’s never really overwhelmed with people, so the kids can spread out and explore without getting lost in the crowd.
There is an indoor eating area and an outdoor picnic area, if you’d like to bring your own lunch. The outdoor picnic area is right beside a large sand pit with several diggers and other sand toys, which is perfect for letting the kids play while the adults finish their meal at a reasonable pace. There are no food services on site, but there are several restaurants within a 10 minute drive from the museum.
For Anne of Green Gables fans, the infamous scene in the movie when Anne breaks her slate over Gilbert’s head was filmed in the school house located right here, at the Simcoe County Museum! You’ll see the school in the video below:
