Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian readers!
This year I’m hosting 20 for our annual family Thanksgiving dinner, but here’s the best part: it’s not taking place at my house! We live too far away for everyone to come here, so my brother has graciously agreed to opening his home while I do the planning and inviting.
I love throwing parties, and since I don’t have to clean my house for this particular gathering, it’s so much more fun!
So, in honour of Thanksgiving and not cleaning, I’d like to introduce our newest Best Mom Ever! Deanna is a mom, wife, blogger, social worker and resident of Chicago.
Welcome Deanna, I’m so glad you were able to take the time to share with us today! Tell us a bit about your family.
I live with my husband and our 2.5 year old daughter.
What do you do for a living, and how do you spend your free time?
I am a full-time Social Worker outside the home. I love to blog about raising a kiddo in Chicago over at Chi City Mom, spend quality time with my family, eat deep dish pizza and listen to great Chicago underground House Music-it gets me through the day whether I am commuting on the bus to work or folding laundry!
I would love to visit Chicago sometime. What kinds of things do you enjoy doing there?
We love to explore our city and try to go on weekend excursions as much as possible. We are pretty close to museums, shops, and lots of restaurants that feature food from all over the world,so we like to check those out as much as we can.
What’s a typical day in your home like?
My husband and I work totally opposite shifts so that we can be home with our daughter and not have to resort to daycare or a nanny, because it is so expensive here. It’s working out so far and we literally tag team each other as far as duties around the home. Weekends are saved for relaxing, and spending time with the kiddo and doing fun things around the city!
What is the one thing you’d like your daughter to learn while she’s a child?
That we live in a big world outside of Chicago. I want my daughter to think globally and have a diverse view of many things, and have a well rounded education and a great balance of work and fun.
What do you wish someone had told you before having your daughter?
Books are great to give you advice as well as family, friends. But at the end, do what works for your family! Don’t freak out if your way of raising a kiddo is different than others.
I agree — what works in the books doesn’t always work in real life!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to get to know you, Deanna!
Get to know Chicago with Deanna at Chi City Mom – she has lots of great photos and ideas for outings too!
