This week I’d thought we’d do something a little different. Instead of The Best Mom Ever, I’d like to introduce The Best DAD Ever — Andrew!
I first met him when I was 13, so we’ve known each other for quite a while now. And let me say, he really is the best Dad ever. You may think I’m biased, but I’m just telling it like it is 😉
Andrew, how old are your kids?
We have 3 wonderful kids; 7, 12 & 14.
What do you do for a living? And what do you like to do with your kids?
I work at a typical 9-5 desk job kind of thing with occasional trips out of town. I like to watch movies and sci-fi and play computer games with my kids.
What do you and your family do for fun?
We typically go for walks , short day trips (parks, beaches …) and yearly out-of-town trips like camping.
Describe a typical day in your home.
I come home to an energetic 7 year old and 2 (mostly ) teenagers who are usually up to something or waiting to use my computer. We all have supper together (prepared by the best wife on earth) and chat about our day and whatever comes to mind. Then we all go for a walk or play on the computer or do homework depending on the day. Then we start bedtime routines and pick bedtime stories. often I read comic books with them at this time; the youngest likes My Little Pony and the boys like Marvel comics like the Avengers.
What is the #1 thing you want your children to have learned by the time they become adults?
That they can be independent and happy regardless of what other people think is ‘successful’ and to have the courage to do what’s right regardless of the current cultural whims and pressure to ‘follow the crowd’.
What advice do you wish you had been given before becoming a dad?
That it costs a lot to raise kids.
